The Sports Department

Sports isn't the only thing going on in the sports department.

nbaoffseason:

In partly NBA but definitely basketball related news, Austin Rivers hits the game-winning buzzer-beater three for Duke, beating their long-time rivals on their home court in Chapel Hill. Needless to say, his dad was pretty happy.

As my first post, here is a picture of our rookie, Charles Jenkins. He was the 14th pick of the second round, 44th overall, and I must say he has potential steal written all over him. I’m not one to follow college ball, so of course I never heard of this guy since his name was never high up in any mock drafts. Once I got a chance to go online and look him up, the first thing that I noticed was his weight of 220 - which is pretty beefy for a rookie point guard. With his size he is already a definite upgrade over Lin as a 2nd/3rd string pg, who of course got cut so we have no need to talk about him.. (tear)Upon going to the Warriors free open practice held a couple of days ago, I was eager to see if Curry got bigger, and if Lee really did lose weight. Both of those guys did, however, my eyes could not leave the powerful Jenkins. He was wearing a longsleeve but already you can see that he was super swoll since his broadness made him look even shorter. By just watching him handling the ball you can already tell he’s a baller. His true play didn’t show until a scrimmage, where he had shown decent defense, good ball control, handles (shook curry..but missed the J,) confidence, vocality, and a midrange jumper. My bad if I’m making this sound like a man crush, but really I think he might just become one my favorite Warriors this season. From watching his interviews you can see that he is very humble, and has a good sense of humor.. kind of cj watson-esque. Very smiley, with a slight gap in his teet. Straight baller from Brooklyn. Very excited to see if Jenkins remains a part of the Warriors long-term. For all you Lin junkies, don’t feel too bad because Jenkins is ready to contribute. He is a way better option than Acie Law, and will probably be more fun to play with in 2k as well. Jenkins has a sparkling personality, something that’s always good for the fans and the locker room. Right when the rookie hazing began and they had to sing “I Want You Back” by the Jackson 5, Jenkins was quick to take the front and show us his skills. Jenkins is also a very fun name to scream out. Try it. JEEEEEEENNNNNKKKIIINNSSSS!!!!

Charles Jenkins, formerly of Hofstra University, is starting in his first NBA game tonight!

Twas the Night Before the NBA

Twas the night before Christmas; And all the through league

All the players were ready; From Kobe to Wade and even Jeff Teague

With LeBron in his headband; And Melo in his shooting sleeve

Gone now are the summer leagues; No need for Globetrotters and their full court weave

With five games tomorrow; expect All-Stars old and new

And some rookie debuts, like Charles Jenkins, Klay Thompson, and maybe Norris Cole too

Some players have changed teams, With some Paul guy to lob city;

The lockout is over and contracts are signed, Finally done with all the legal nitty-gritty

But even with the NBA tomorrow, That’s not what Christmas is all about,

It’s about family and loved ones past, It’s about loving your brother (at least the minimal amount)

So have a Merry Christmas tomorrow, Enjoy family and friends all day through,

And maybe watch a game or two, But always remember what’s important too

nfloffseason:

Congrats to the Texans for clinching their first playoff spot since returning to Houston as an expansion team.
The last time a Houston football team made the playoffs was with Warren Moon and the Oilers in 1993.
Many people, including myself, were skeptical as to why the team brought back head coach Gary Kubiak this year, after years of under-performance. But with a revamped defense under Wade Philips and a level of resiliency few expected after injuries to Matt Schaub, Mario Williams and Andre Johnson; the Texans are deserving participants in the post-season.
No matter what happens in the playoffs, getting there is a huge step for the organization. Its first step in fact towards relevance.

No caption necessary.

He’s 7-1 as the starting quarterback of the Denver Broncos. Say what you will about him and how he is portrayed, but the man is a rookie quarterback in the NFL who seems to do the impossible in the 4th quarter and overtime week after week. That’s impressive.

Never Forget You - A Tribute To Brandon Roy

Very nice tribute to a very good player. Former Rookie of the Year. One of the best individual 4th quarter performances I’ve gotten to see. And a high character guy that brought hope back to the Portland fans. Without injury, this guy would have been in the Hall of Fame someday, he was that good when healthy.
